Killarney Schools Athletics competition

The Killarney primary schools track and field competition took place on Wednesday 24^th of May and Friday 26^th of May in St. Brendan’s College in glorious sunshine. On Wednesday evening, the boys took to the track where Finn (2^nd Class) came 2^nd in the 60m sprint final. Charlie (5^th class) finished 3^rd in the final, a brilliant achievement considering he attended a school tour on the same day! What wonderful commitment displayed by our students. It’s fair to say the Fossa boys dominated in the long distance events, medalling in 4/6 age categories. In the 1^st class race, Cian and Cillian M. finished 2^nd and 3^rd place in the 300m. In the 2^nd class race, Conor B also finished 2^nd place in the 300m final. Dara (3^rd class) made it three podiums in a row by finishing 2^nd place in the 500m. Aaron (4^th class) stormed to an impressive victory with a dominant display of middle distance running by winning Fossa’s first gold medal of the day by winning the 4^th class 500m. The combined 1^st and 2^nd class boys relay team of Finn, Conor L, Cillian C and Cian finished 2^nd place and the 3^rd and 4^th class boys team of Aaron, Ryan Eoin M. and Dara finished 3^rd. Brilliant running by both teams! In the field events, Dan (3^rd class) competed in the Turbo Javelin and clinched a 3^rd place finish. Tristan (4^th class) jumped over 3.70m to finish in 3^rd place in the long jump. Finally, Fionn D. (6^th class) finished a brilliant 3^rd place in a competitive shot putt competition. A big well done must be given to the rest of the Fossa boys who competed admirably, showing wonderful sportsmanship on the day. They were:

1^st class: Cillian C – 60m, Jack L – 60m, Hugo – 60m

2^nd class: Conor L – 60m, Ben – 60m, Joshua and Oisin F. – Javelin

3^rd class: Anthony – 80m, Riain – 500m

4^th class: Ryan, Eoin M – 100m, George – 500m, Mark – Long Jump

5^th class: Joshua – 100m

6^th class: Eoin B, Johnny– Shot Putt

 

The second day of competition started with the girls’ sprints. In the first event of the day, the 1^st class girls 60m, Marielle finished in an excellent 3^rd place. The first gold medal of the day went to Emily (4^th class) in the 80m sprint. This opened the floodgates for the Fossa girls as more gold medals were to come. Ada (5^th class) stormed home to dominate the 100m final to finish in 1^st place. Yet again, Fossa showed their domination in the long distance events. Sadhbh (1^st class) romped to victory, leading from gun to tap in truly dominant fashion. Chloe O’ S. (2^nd class) finished 3^rd in a highly competitive field. In 4^th class, Eve finished 2^nd in a closely fought race. On another day, the outcome could have gone in her favour. Elise (5^th class) also displayed some dominating middle distance running by finishing 1^st place. Both the 1st and 2^nd class combined relay team of Marielle, Sally, Chloe and Sadhbh and the 3^rd and 4^th class combined relay team of Eve, Emily, Gemma and Jane finished in 2^nd place. In the field events, Sally (2^nd class) finished a brilliant 2^nd place. Sally was competition against students a year older and will definitely be a contender for gold next year. The same can be said for Ciara V (4^th class) who finished 3^rd in the long jump. Ciara was also competing against students a year older than her and will be aiming for gold next year. Well done to all our girls for competing in tough, sweltering conditions. A big well done to:

2^nd class: Yeva – 60m, Dawn 300m, Eadaoin – Javelin

4^th class: Jane – 100m, Kate – 100m, Gemma – 500m

5^th class: Ava H – 100m

6^th class: Isabelle – 600m
