Welcome to Fossa National School

Requirements for School Return on Monday 1st of March For Junior Classes (Junior Infants to 2nd Class)

Dear Parents/Guardians & Pupils,

Junior & Senior Infants and 1st & 2nd classes will return to school on Monday 1st of March at 9:05 am. All the staff in Fossa National School are very excited to welcome back students once again after this period of school closure. From Monday, normal school times for the full school day will apply for children in Junior and Senior Infants and children in First and Second Class and Special Classes.

Requirements for the phased return to school as set out by the Department of Education require parents to fill in a Return to School Declaration which will be a short Google Form which you will receive by text message.

For any parent having difficulty accessing the link for the Return to School Declaration please click on relevant link beside your child's class teacher's name:

PLEASE NOTE THIS FORM MUST BE SIGNED TO ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO RETURN TO SCHOOL. YOUR CHILD CANNOT RETURN TO SCHOOL WITHOUT THIS FORM BEING SIGNED.

On arrival at school please use the entrances you normally use and face masks are required by all adults once they enter the school campus. All staff will be wearing face masks. Please use the usual doors assigned to each class.

Social distancing should be maintained at all times as you drop off or collect your child from school. Avoid congregating when dropping off or collecting your children, as these are particularly dangerous times for infection.

The ‘bubble’ system which we used before Christmas will also remain in place i.e. each class will be a bubble and not mix with other classes. Each classroom will also be cleaned daily and the stringent hand washing protocols remain in place.

I would like to thank you for your  continued support, hard work and patience during this school closure. The staff in Fossa National School are looking forward to seeing all the boys and girls from Junior Infants to 2nd Class and Special Classes on Monday morning.

Have a nice weekend.

Kind regards,

Mr. John Burke

Letter to Parents January 11th

Dear Parents/Guardians & Pupils,

Over the coming weeks teachers will communicate with the children in a variety of different ways using Google Classroom, Email and SeeSaw.

Our collective aim is to support and help you and your children through this difficult time. We understand that every home is different, with varying levels of internet access and different times suitable for engagement, so we understand that any of us can only do our best.

As a school staff we understand that the prospect of home schooling and learning from home may cause anxiety and stress for many parents/guardians especially those trying to juggle parenting and work duties. Please note that whilst we all agree that in-school teaching and learning is best, school staff will provide for and support learning activities appropriate to each class level in so far as is possible. We ask for everyone’s patience and understanding at this time as there are challenges for parents, pupils and school staff in managing all the expectations and demands of remote learning. Please also understand that the school must also manage the availability of school staff at this time. Daily school time must be utilised by teachers for class level curriculum planning, assessment and feedback and communication during remote learning.

At this time of uncertainty in the midst of a public health pandemic our priority is that everyone remains safe and that there is a focus on maintaining physical and mental wellbeing for both adults and children. Please do not stress too much about schoolwork and keep positive and connected with your child’s teacher over the coming weeks.

Stay in touch and let us know if we can help in any other way.

Ní neart go cur le chéile.

Kind regards,

Mr. John Burke

Principal
